November 1, 2019 Leave a Comment

Many people collect coins as a hobby, but there is a growing population of people who buy rare coins as an investment – with a broad range of interesting and scarce coins that hold historical significance, it’s no wonder why.

Millions of buyers search for rare coins for sale to include in their collection or to purchase as an investment. Finding rare coins available for sale is quite easy with all the online listings – you have instant access to a large collection of coins that are just waiting to be yours.

Buying Rare Coins Online

There are a massive amount of rare coins for sale on dealer websites, auction houses and marketplaces like eBay. Like anything else you buy online, it is always best to make sure you are buying from reputable companies, or top-rated sellers.

Purchasing coins online is a great way to get access to a global inventory of high-graded coins that have been verified by companies such as PCGS and NGC.

Buying Old Coins From a Dealer

Sometimes, collectors prefer to buy in-person from local dealers, or from coin dealers at coin shows. This is because when you buy in person, you can see what the coin looks like up-close and in-person, to make sure it is in good condition. This is especially important if your are buying coins that are not professionally graded. Dealing coins in person has the added personal element of face-to-face interactions, which can sometimes lead to discounts on the purchase price of a coin. Make sure you always buy from honest, reputable coin dealers.

What is a numismatist?

A numismatist is a specialist in numismatics, a person who studies, collects and or is a dealer of coins. Numismatists tend to be know as somewhat of historians since collecting and dealing in old coins successfully requires at least some historical knowledge.

Should I buy rare silver or gold coins?

There are many collectors and dealers out there who make a lot of money doing so. The key to success is to do lots of coin and currency research, and make educated purchase decisions. And, expect that you will have to hold on to your coin investments for many years before you can sell and get a return.
